Trustee

Help steer the future of eating disorder support in Plymouth

As a Trustee, you’ll help shape the strategic direction of EDS Plymouth and make sure we meet our legal and governance responsibilities. You’ll also play an active part in protecting the charity’s long-term financial stability. It’s a role with real responsibility, and one where your experience can make a lasting difference to people in our community.

Why join our board?

Our trustees are a dedicated group who support and drive our leadership team. Together, we’re working towards one mission: helping anyone affected by eating disorders and eating difficulties to rebuild confidence, health and hope.

Joining the board means becoming part of a passionate team that cares deeply about the people we support and wants to build a brighter future for them.

The difference you'll make

  • Help set the organisation’s direction and decide where we focus our efforts
  • Support our leadership team, and challenge them where needed, so the service keeps improving
  • Bring an outside perspective that strengthens how we work
  • Leave an impact that carries on long after your time on the board has ended

What's involved

The role is designed to fit around a busy working life.

  • Board meetings roughly every six weeks, in Plymouth or online
  • Occasional emails and correspondence between meetings
  • The option to support the service in other ways, as and when you have time
  • Reasonable expenses reimbursed

Who we're looking for

You don’t need a background in the charity sector. We welcome anyone with an interest in becoming a trustee, but we’re particularly keen to hear from people with a finance or business background. Experience in strategic leadership or governance would also be a real asset.

If you’d like to put your professional skills to meaningful use and you care about mental health in our community, we’d love to hear from you.

What you'll get from it

Being a trustee is rewarding in its own right, but it’s also a chance to develop your own skills. You’ll gain board-level experience, see how a charity is run from the inside and work alongside people who are passionate about what they do.

How to get involved

To express interest or find out more, send your CV and a short cover letter to caragh@eatingdisorderserviceplymouth.co.uk. If you’d rather have an informal chat first, give us a call on 01752 228027.

Our Story

EDS Plymouth has been supporting adults with eating disorders since 1995.

We started because too many people were struggling without suitable help or didn’t know where to turn. By offering specialist care closer to home, we’ve helped people access support earlier, more comfortably, and without the barriers that often come with traditional services.

Over the years, we’ve grown. We now have a Day Service, a dedicated team of therapists, dietitians, and practitioners, and we’ve expanded our support for families and carers.

But our purpose has stayed the same: to help people recover, prevent crisis, and rebuild their lives.

Meet the Team

Our team includes therapists, dietitians, and practitioners who share a commitment to helping adults manage eating difficulties within a safe, understanding environment.
